Reception Crisis

Since the fall of 2022, single men applying for international protection in Belgium have faced a dire situation. The Federal Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers in Belgium (Fedasil) has been unable to provide shelter for these applicants. This reception crisis has left many vulnerable applicants without the necessary support and their basic rights.

In response to this crisis, the Legal Helpdesk, supported by independent organizations, initiatives, volunteers and volunteer lawyers, has united to provide practical and legal assistance to single men applicants without shelter. Despite the challenges posed by the reception crisis, we are committed to ensure that every applicant has access to the rights they have.

Legal Helpdesk

Legal helpdesk initiative has emerged to address the needs of international protection applicants due to reception crisis. In collaboration with partner organizations, this helpdesk aims to assist applicants in accessing free and official legal services.

The Legal Helpdesk operates every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday afternoon, providing a vital resource for applicants in need of legal assistance. Through partnerships with NGOs and initiatives, pro-bono lawyers are assigned to applicants seeking international protection. These lawyers play a crucial role in helping applicants navigate complex legal processes and secure their rights.
