About Vluchtelingenwerk

Since 1987, Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen has been committed to supporting people fleeing war, violence, and persecution. Today, we advocate for policy change and raise public awareness. Together with dozens of member organizations and countless dedicated volunteers, we work towards proper reception and integration, ensuring that everyone can feel at home in Belgium. We support everyone assisting asylum seekers and refugees.

General Assembly

Around fifty members guide the organization and define its strategic direction during biannual General Assembly meetings. Members approve the budget and financial statements, multi-year strategies, annual action plans, and policy positions.

Board of Directors

The Board is elected by the General Assembly and typically meets monthly. Current members are: Liefke Dolmans, Landry Mawungu, Joos Wauters, Brecht Beelen, Adrienne Axler, Ellen Van den Berghe, Eva Davidova, Marlies Casier, and Bruno Vanobbergen.

Board members serve in a personal capacity, and their positions are unpaid.

Management

The day-to-day operations of Vluchtelingenwerk are led by Tine Claus. The management is overseen by the Board of Directors. You can reach out to them via @email.

Statutes

On December 16, 2022, the General Assembly approved new statutes for Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen. The previous version, dating back to 2005, was updated to comply with the Code of Companies and Associations.

Annual Reports

Transparency is key to us. Every year, we publish a report outlining our activities and funding sources.

Financial Management

Vluchtelingenwerk is funded at the European, federal, and Flemish levels. We also receive support from 11.11.11, foundations, and private and corporate donors.

Project grants are monitored closely by the relevant government agencies.

Annual Accounts

Our accounts are audited by Mazars Bedrijfsrevisoren and are publicly available on the National Bank of Belgium’s website. Visit www.nbb.be, click on 'balance sheet centre', then 'consult annual accounts'. Search for "Vluchtelingenwerk" to view statements from 2006 onward.
We also publish key financial data on www.donorinfo.be.

HR and Salary Policy

We actively promote diversity and hire staff based on their skills. We believe our team should reflect society and offer opportunities for growth.
Staff are paid according to five salary categories based on the pay scales of joint committee 329.01.

Public transport for commuting is reimbursed: 100% for train passes and 80% for bus, tram, or metro passes. In addition to the 20 statutory holidays, we offer 10 extra days off.

We promote work-life balance, including flexible working hours.

Vluchtelingenwerk Vlaanderen is committed to providing a safe environment for everyone interacting with the organization. That’s why we have an integrity policy to prevent and address inappropriate behaviour and discrimination. The policy applies to staff, volunteers, interns, members, partners, service providers, and participants in our activities.
